Grade 11 - Choice Highlight #3 - University Tours

This year I went on two university tours - one with the school to Eastern Canada and one to California with my Dad.  These trips really opened my eyes to what is out there and motivated me to do my best this year and next so I will be able to attend one of these schools. Some of my favourites included Western, Dalhousie University, University of San Diego, and UCLA.

Grade 11 - Athletics Reflection - Stars Volleyball Club

This year I was a part of the North Shore Stars Volleyball Club for the third year in a row.  I really enjoy playing for this club because the values are ones that I believe in. The focus is more on development and giving everyone an equal chance, rather than solely competition and only playing the top 6 girls.  This year the group of girls really meshed together well and we did very well at the U18 Provincials, which was a great accomplishment. We had worked hard all season preparing for this province-wide tournament so it was rewarding to be able to do so well there. Also, when we played the top rated team in Canada, we got 15 points on them, which is very impressive considering their status.

Included in being part of this club in 2013 all of us had to put in 12 hours of volunteering for the under 12 girls who participate in Youth League, a development camp on Wednesday nights throughout the year.  They work on learning new skills, the rules of the game, and begin to work together on learning rotations and basic plays.  Our role at this class was to encourage the beginners, help facilitate games and drills for the girls, and facilitate tournaments within the course time constraints.  This part of the club was very rewarding for me because I got to not only spend more time with my teammates, but help young volleyball players learn the sport in hopes of them going on to playing with the Stars Club when they come of age.

Stars Volleyball has been a large part of my high school career so I am sad that this is the last year for me to play with them.  Although this is the end, I have a lot of great memories from the past 3 seasons and have made many friends that will last me a lifetime.

Grade 11 - Choice Highlight #2 - My fitness regime

This year I decided to create a healthy eating and fitness regime to follow. This consisted of running the area aroudn the school each day or participiting in my Mom's fitness class at West Vancouver Rec Center.  I also replaced unhealthy foods with more filling, healthy options such as fruits, vegetables, nuts, and lean meats. This regime allowed me to have mroe energy and feel better about myself!

Grade 11 - Arts Reflection - Photography Final Project

This year in photography I completed many different projects. I learned how to better use my SLR camera and expand upon my knowledge of photography. Before this year I had only experimented with this art form, but Photo 11 was differnet. I was able to release my creativity and create photographs I was truly proud of.

The final project this year was an independant proejct. I could decide what the outline would be and execute it on my own time. This was different for me because I was used to being told the outline of the project and what was expected then simply completing the required photographs.  For this project, I chose to do macro (extremely zoomed in) photogrpahy of raw food found in the kitchen. For example, almonds, dry pasta, various fruits, and crackers.  This project allwoed me to express myslef and show the type of photos I wanted to to the class .I was very excited to have the independace of this project and was very proud of the results :)

This is the link to my flickr page from the year and below are some photos that were created through this final project.

Grade 11 - Choice Highlight #1 - Getting my license!!

This April I passed my N test after several months of lead up and preparation. I was very proud of this accomplishment and it allowed me to have more freedom and independence.

Grade 11 - Academics Highlight - APHG

This year I took my first ever AP course, Human Geography. I loved this course and it was very interesting to me. The topics were relevant and I liked how I could apply it to my every day life. I also scored a 4 on the exam, which was a great way to end off the year!!
